There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
My only issue is I could never size the outlet correctly and now that I want to use it again I can not find the pieces I got with it. I want to hard plumb it but years ago when I took the fittings to the hardware store nothing worked since its metric size so I settled on using the smallest fitting provided and probably sacrificed 60% of the flow going into my mixing vat and my temporary holding tank, which is a waste of electricity.
Does this company know what the size is of the female thread? This way I can order the part and plumb it to a 1" US PVC fitting.?
Only this year, five years later, has it began to slow down and make a rattling noise. It's not moving as much water as it used to.
I use this for a reverse flow (up flow) biofilter with appx 24" head pumping through 15 layers of green scrub pads in a ceramic flower pot (an EXCELLENT way to hide a DIY filter, BTW)
Highly recommended for a CHEAP low head / low pressure / high flow pump

Hydrofarm AAPW160 (the pump on this page),
EcoPlus Submersible Pump - 66 gph ,
EcoPlus Submersible Pump - 132 gph - 9W and
PonicsPump PP120, 120 GPH .
When this Hydrofarm AAPW160 pump arrived, the pump did not look anything like the pump you see pictured above... it appears much CHEAPER plus I really don't like to be shown one thing and sold another. But that is not the worst of it.
After hooking it up to the fountain, it worked well enough. I checked the wattage with a P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor I recently bought and the wattage checked out to be 9.5 watts just as the specs stated. However...
Next I hooked up the PonicsPump PP120 , supposedly a smaller pump... but low and behold, this PonicsPump put out more water with 37% less electricity!!! Again, I checked the wattage with my "Kill A Watt" meter and it checked out to be 6 watts just as they stated. As an added plus, the PonicsPump PP120 cost less than the Hydrofarm AAPW160. Needless to say, I kept this one and returned all the others; and ordered 3 more PonicsPump PP120s.
Oh, forgot the mention, the EcoPlus 66 would not even produce a trickle at 2' and the EcoPlus 132 gph pumped about 60% less than the Hydrofarm AAPW160 ... but the "Kill A Watt" meter showed an amazing high 26.5 Watts. Surely would recommend avoiding the extremely inefficient EcoPlus pumps.
I am using the Hydrofarm for my small ornamental pond which holds about 340 gallons. This pump is powerful for my needs!
I replaced my old anemic VIVOSUN 800GPH Submersible Pump(3000L/H, 24W) which failed after one year in the hopes of a more audible water sound, better water circulation and oxygen generation and less overall clogging.
TLDR; huge improvement, night-and-day difference. The pump itself below the water level makes zero noise. I removed the silly foam "filter" as this would have clogged instantly in my natural water conditions (string algae, lily roots, snails, goldfish, etc). I do not have a bog filter at this time.
I have a small rock fountain set about 3 feet high from the water surface. This pump sits about 1 1/2 feet below the water surface on the bottom resting on the pond liner amongst the muck and lily roots.
The total height rise is about 5 feet using 3/8 inch diameter clear tubing. I used the provided nipple that came with the pump. The tubing runs about 6-7 feet in length along the back of the rocks in a few gentle S-bends climbing to the falls/fountain top.
I have the flow-shutter completely closed and it provides my falls with an energetic flow rate and a small river sound (almost too loud at night falling 2 1/2 feet).
Every few weeks I will simply open the flow valve a little (1/2 turn) to clear out the muck in the intake while I skim or cleanup dead lily pads and the flow rate roars back to life over the falls/fountain edge almost instantly, then I close it again for the minimum flow.
Very pleased so far.
My next update to this review will be done in about a year.
Top reviews from other countries
The noise level is reasonably low, on par I would say with other pumps I have seen, certainly not unpleasant.
The pump comes with a large collection of fittings for differ ID tubing which was convenient, it also came with an air line attachment fitting that allows you to pump your air directly into the tubing. I didn't find this an effective feature as the air stone does a much better job of delivering air more equally.
I am very impressed with its overall performance.
1) It's apparently recommended for 15 gallon tanks (I'm using it for a container garden which is about 90 gallonsish). From what I can see it is most definitely pumping like a beast - the water in my container would make a teeny human sea sick. - Very impressed with the power
2) It comes with both of the attachments - so you get the air induction hose/muffler WITH the the two optional tube fittings you see in the image they post on the ad.
3) It fits a 1/2" tube (I bought the black vinyl one that's recommended - it fits perfectly - snug)
4) It seriously is ridiculously small - A bit smaller then an Iphone 4 dimension but thicker obviously.
5) Both of the air valve tubes stay ABOVE water - for some reason I was very confused about how the aeration would work but the manual explains it.
6) Note that the power cord is quite short. I think my hair dryer has a longer cord, but it's about 6 feet'.
Since it's day 1 I'll see how it goes - we're running it with no pauses and plan to do it through a Vancouver Canada winter (mild - only a handful of days of snow a year on average) so I'll update if it dies on me. If it lasts a year I'll be happy with this price.
