Customers like the performance of the pump sprayer. For example, they say it works well after assembly, works great on a 1 acre property, and works well as a sprayer with the boom spraying about a foot. That said, some complain about the drips and the fuse on the positive cable.
"...Summary: for the price it works well as a sprayer with the boom spraying about a 10' wide swath...." Read more
"...Have used the sprayer twice, so far it appears to work fine and is much quicker than a backpack sprayer which is what I used before...." Read more
"...Still working fine, no troubles with the other plastics or pump. The boom I fabricated is still working well also, but check your box on arrival...." Read more
"...This little sprayer does well with our 3 acres.Goes up and down the hilly, open pasture yard really well...." Read more
Customers like the adjustability of the pump sprayer. For example, they say it's a very good sprayer, has a high quality pump, and a nice boom with good sprayers. That said, some complain about the wheel bearing falling apart after only three acres. Overall, they mention it'll spray a large area in a short period and is adequate for its intended use.
"...very similar to a pressure washer, a high quality pump, a nice boom with good sprayers, inflatable tires and mostly metal frame...." Read more
"...Sprays a good 6-7’ coverage with even spray very easy to adjust. Makes the work easy. Good quality sprayer." Read more
"...The spray bar is a real bitch to get snapped in but I understand, if you hit something with the bar it will pop out rather than break...." Read more
"...It applies the product very evenly and the hand held sprayer attachment is really handful for more precise application." Read more
Customers are mixed about the quality of the pump sprayer. Some mention it's very sturdy, easy to use, and of high impact plastic. However, others say that the wheel bearing fell apart after only three acres, the manifold broke out of the box, and the brass wand cracked.
"...tested the sprayer (with the included wire harness) the fuse blew within 60 seconds. When I replaced the wire harness, I used an inline 10 amp fuse...." Read more
"...This is high impact plastic, not the cheap stuff that some made it out to be. The tank is also a quality plastic composite...." Read more
"...Arrived in rough shape. Box was torn and parts were sticking out of box. No parts were missing though...." Read more
"...apart; a metal spray wand very similar to a pressure washer, a high quality pump, a nice boom with good sprayers, inflatable tires and mostly metal..." Read more
Customers are mixed about the ease of use of the pump sprayer. Some mention that it's easy to put together and use, with straightforward instructions. That said, others say that the directions are a bit hard to figure out, minimal, and don't clearly articulate what to do. That being said, it takes some time to put it together and takes an inordinate amount of force to install it.
"...The unit DID the job it was built for. It did it with ease, quickly, without mess, and nary a hiccup in functional reliability...." Read more
"...It does just snap in place but it takes an inordinate amount of force to install it and my worry was damaging the mounting bracket since the bracket..." Read more

"...Unfortunately the assembly wasn't that straightforward...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the value of the pump sprayer. Some mention that it works well, is expensive, and a fabulous buy, while others say that it's a waste of money and sucks. They also say that the quality control system sux and that the hose clamps are made of cheap stainless steel.
"Nice sprayer for the money, a good value. I compared every similar towed sprayer that I could find and this Chapin was the best value...." Read more
"...3. Your quality conrol system sucks...." Read more
"All in all, I consider this sprayer a good value. Unfortunately the assembly wasn't that straightforward...." Read more
"...and this is industry in general, is they used the cheapest stainless steel hose clamps, with steel screws. Everyone is rusted...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the missing parts in the pump sprayer. They mention that there was no parts list included, there was too much missing, and there was a broken manifold assembly. They also mention that the frame rail was missing, as well as the essential heel bracket that the spray bar attaches to.
"...Also, do a complete parts check right away, as mine was missing the essential heel bracket that the spray bar attaches to...." Read more
"...None were supplied and none are shown on the instruction drawing. The nozzles also drip after shutting off the pump...." Read more
"...Well the frame rail was missing. The service dept got one to me in 2 days which was faster than I expected...." Read more
"...I'm not sure about that, simply because there was no list of parts, and the instructions were so bad that some of the pictures could have been..." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the cord length of the pump sprayer. They mention that the off switch is not long enough, the connections are not tight, and the hand sprayer tubing is very short. The bolt supplied is only long enough to get 2-1/2 threads into the tube. The stem to inflate is too short and the power cord is short. Additionally, the hardware is undersized and the parts didn't even fit in the box.
"...also had to use some of my own hardware since some of the supplied bolts seemed inadequate (1/4" when should be 5/16")...." Read more
"...wish I had bought the 25 gallon model as this one is a little small for the square footage of grass I have...." Read more
"...Lots of plastic to include the frame parts. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN ANY BOLTS!..." Read more
"...one of the bolts out and stripped it best I can tell the bolt supplied is only long enough to get 2-1/2 threads into the plastic insert i epoxied it..." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the leakage of the pump sprayer. They mention that it leaks all over, has flaws, and has a high-pressure leak that developed where the gage screws into the plastic fitting. Thenozzles drip, and teflon tape wouldn't stop the leak.
"...The nozzles also drip after shutting off the pump. I fixed the drip at the nozzle nuts by sanding the sealing surface so that the filter would seal...." Read more
"...There is a leak between the pump and the hose, where all the parts are plastic, so I'll probably wrap the threads with tape and see if that helps,..." Read more
"...For sure it drips where the sprayers are & mine developed a bad high pressure leak where the pressure gage fits onto the plastic manifold, spraying..." Read more
"...the company could correct these flaws, ie.. instructions, leaking drain plug, and fastener for spray hoses." Read more

But because you run at much lower speeds than when mowing, you're not imposing excessive shock loads when spraying weed killer.
Be sure to read and follow instructions during assembly, as it is not as visually intuitive as some projects.
Its easiest if you turn the tank upside down when mounting the axle frame.
Also, do a complete parts check right away, as mine was missing the essential heel bracket that the spray bar attaches to.
I called their 800 # and they were very quick at send the missing part right away.
You may want to rig up a hose hanger for those times you're making frequent changes between using the hand held wand sprayer and the tow sprayer.
Also, don't forget to close the tow spray valve when using the wand.
Be sure and do the recommended rinse runs after spraying, to keep the nozzles from clogging or corroding other components.
Use care when inverting to drain between seasonal use. (yes, it has a drain plug, but the tank bottom is uneven)
Put it to work this morning. After tightening a couple of turns on this clamp or that connector, the leak issue was moot....good to go. Ran straight water on my driveway (all 500 feet of it) to see what patterns and coverage adjustments were needed. After a couple of passes were made, we had it set up. Then i started on the 800 X 200 foot yard which surrounds my house. Using the charts provided by Chapin, and running at speeds recommended, i laid down the weed n crabgrass control concentrates. The jury is still out on that, as it takes time, but it is neither here nor there with regard to the sprayer. The unit DID the job it was built for. It did it with ease, quickly, without mess, and nary a hiccup in functional reliability. Unless you are a high acreage landbaron, or own a professional golf course, this is the ticket. Seeing how this one works, if pull behind wasnt my bag, i would also try one of the tractor or ATV mounts.
My only long term concern is the Nozzles, being all plastic except for the screen, being durable. Only time will tell there.
So why only 1 star? Too many things wrong with it.
1) The instructions are really poor but it wasn't that hard to figure out how this sprayer was supposed to go together.
2) I also had to use some of my own hardware since some of the supplied bolts seemed inadequate (1/4" when should be 5/16").
3) The boom is also not easily removed (for storing the sprayer) and reinstalled so I will revise how it mounts so it can be quickly removed. It does just snap in place but it takes an inordinate amount of force to install it and my worry was damaging the mounting bracket since the bracket is not sturdily mounted to the tank.
4) The Nozzles drip. I don't care what Chapin says, the nozzles and the nozzle nuts drip. I tightened the nozzle nuts reasonably tight, any more and I'm sure I would have stripped the threads but both nozzles are still dripping where the nozzles nuts are. I am going to try some garden hose washers and see if that solves the problem. None were supplied and none are shown on the instruction drawing. The nozzles also drip after shutting off the pump. I fixed the drip at the nozzle nuts by sanding the sealing surface so that the filter would seal. That fixed that problem but the nozzles themselves drip. They drip when spraying and drip when you shut the pump off.
5) The nozzles do not stay where pointed. There is not enough clamping force to prevent the nozzles from rotating on the boom, not only because of the clamp design but the smoothness of the boom. I am going to insert some non-slip rubber which should solve the problem.
6) There is no shutoff valve for the hand sprayer, which means even if you don't want it, the hand sprayer will get liquid in it which will require flushing it out. This wastes my time so I will find some type of shutoff valve since I will be mainly using the boom.
7) It won't pickup the liquid going downhill if running low on liquid. The pickup should have been in the middle of the tank with a sump and with the drain there. So if you have to do any downhill spraying, do it first.
8) The power cord is short and that means it is hanging in the air and easily bumped. I will lengthen the line, put a connector on my tractor and an on/off switch on the tractor's dash. I cannot believe it would cost that much to add another 2 feet of power cord.
I highly recommend filling the tank with water the first time you use it to make sure the pressure is correct and the nozzles are aimed properly.
Would I recommend this Chapin Towable Sprayer, only to someone who can deal with the issues I've noted.
