About this item

  • We believe that Sugar Buns is simply the yummiest early sweet corn you can grow!
  • We were bowled over in our trials -- nothing tasted sweeter, thanks to this hybrid's special homozygous sugar-enhancer endosperm. (What was that again?) Simply put, you'll get great-tasting corn that stays fresher longer -- no more racing to eat up or give away the harvest before it spoils!
  • Plants reach just over 5 feet tall, producing beautiful 7-inch ears with 14 rows of sweet, tasty yellow kernels.
  • Sugar-enhanced corn is creamier and more tender than Super Sweet, with stronger old-fashioned corn flavor, yet is sweeter than regular Sweet hybrids. This delicious variety retains its sweetness for up to 10 days after harvest. No isolation from other corn is necessary, and germination is easier than with Super Sweets.
  • Sow after last spring frost, when the soil is warm. Corn is famously easy to direct-sow in any sunny spot. To extend your corn harvest, make successive plantings weekly up to mid-July, or plant varieties with differing maturity dates.

Know Before You Grow: Corns

Corn is one of the most versatile and best-loved veggies you can grow. It's been cultivated for thousands of years, increasing in popularity over time, as its attributes have become more and more obvious. Not only is it delicious in a wide variety of dishes as well as fresh from the stalk, but its uses go well beyond the culinary world. From Corn-on-the-cob and popcorn to syrups and cereals and an abundance of other products (edible and not!), this tasty vegetable is truly remarkable!

Why Park Seed?

  • High germination rate;
  • Yield and yield consistency;
  • Grain dry down;
  • Standability and stalk quality;
  • Early season vigor;
  • Choosing diversity.

when to sow park seed

When to Sow

Corn is best sown outdoors in situ after all danger of frost has passed in spring. Sow in warm soil -- optimum temperature is at least 60 degrees F.

Sweet Corn can be started indoors 2 weeks before the last frost at a temperature of 70 to 75 degrees F, but direct sowing is recommended.

Choosing a Corn Variety

Regular Sweet Hybrids corn seeds

Sugar Enhanced Corn Seeds

Super Sweet Varieties corn seeds

Triple Sweet Varieties corn seeds

Regular Sweet Hybrids

Traditional, old-fashioned Corn flavor, delicious without an emphasis on sweetness.

High yielding.

Sugar Enhanced Varieties

Sweeter than regular strains, and with a sweetness that lasts longer after the Corn has been picked.

A creamy, tender texture and no planting isolation needed from other Sweet Corn.

Super Sweet Varieties

Bred for twice the sweetness of regular Corn. Will hold their tenderness and sweetness up to two weeks.

They must be planted in totally warm soil and kept isolated from other types by 200 feet or 14 days planting time.

New Triple Sweet Varieties

Wonderfully sweet, but they were bred to add more original Corn taste to the sweetness, improve crunchy texture, and hold their flavor and sweetness even longer.

Requires no isolation from other Sweet Corns.

Growing Tips for Corn

  • Side dress your Corn plants with a high-nitrogen fertilizer.

  • Harvest your Sweet Corn once the silks have dried -- this will be approximately 3 weeks after silking.

  • When harvesting break the stem of the ear (shank) close to the ear. Avoid breaking the main stock or tearing the stem from the stalk. Just hold the ear near the base and bend it down sharply. You can also bend it to the side.

  • You can expect at least one ear (sometimes more) from each stalk.

  • In order to maintain the sugar content, you will want to refrigerate your Sweet Corn right away.

Description Sugar-enhanced corn is creamier and more tender than Super Sweet, with stronger old-fashioned corn flavor, yet is sweeter than regular Sweet hybrids. In the category of sweet or salad Peppers, your choices include bell and pimento as well as some banana and cherry varieties. If heat is what you want, you can grow Habañero, Jalapeño, Anaheim, or Hungarian Peppers. Basil leaves are ideal for tomato sauces, pesto, and salads. It can be dried or chopped, covered in olive oil, and frozen in ice cube trays for later use. Currant tomato worthy of an All-America Selections Award. Candyland Red Hybrid is the first ever to receive this honor, and when you grow it, you will see why. Easier to harvest, sweeter, and more productive than others. It makes growing and transplanting young plants easy. Our seed-starting system creates an ideal growing environment - a Goldilocks zone - where light, water, heat, and air circulation are just right for nurturing young seedlings.
Details Sow after last spring frost, when the soil is warm. Corn is famously easy to direct-sow in any sunny spot. To extend your corn harvest, make successive plantings weekly up to mid-July, or plant varieties with differing maturity dates. Start seeds indoors or, in climate with short growing seasons, outdoors at least one week after last frost. If starting indoors, allow 7 to 10 weeks for the seeds to mature into seedlings large enough to transplant safely. The seeds can be direct sown in spring after danger of frost, when night temperatures consistently stay above 50 degrees Fahrenheit & the soil feels warm to the touch. Cover them with a scant ¼-inch of soil, & keep the soil moist. These indeterminate plants must be staked or caged as they grow upward to 5-6 feet, harvesting more than 500 tomatoes. Soft, transparent skins offer a mild acid flavor that enhances the sweet taste. With the Bio Dome, you place only one seed in each Bio Sponge, which really helps stretch out today's smaller seed-count packets.
