It wilted the very next day after it's first bloom. I ended up throwing it away. Too temperamental. Sad....
3rd UPDATE :
I have my very first clematis flower! I'm not even sure how it has survived, since I lost almost half of the plant. But I did clip off the sections that wilted or had brown spots and sprayed it with neem oil.
It hasn't fully opened, but I still took a picture of it!
2nd UPDATE:
The part where the vine was bent decided to die off, so I had to remove it. Down at the base of the plant, it's still growing. So there is that. 3 1/2 stars...
UPDATE:
I've had this planted for 9 days and I see a new shoot coming up and it has a flower bud developing on another section of the plant.
I'm feeling hopeful that it will survive! I switched my rating to 4 stars.
*************
I've bought plants in big box stores from Proven Winners. I would not have chosen this particular plant.
2 vines were bent from the packaging, hardly any soil in the container and it was root bound. Several yellow leaves with spots on them. I cleaned it up before planting it.
If you zoom in, you can see the bend in one of the vines.
I should have just gone to a big box. I would have paid less for the size but, they didn't have the color I was wanting.
I hope it survives!

Planted in a trellised planter box. Using zip ties to "train" the vines and have to monitor weekly. No bad leaves, rotten roots, or other problems. Delivered to my front door - love shopping this way rather than going to the box stores.
UPDATE: I ordered a second one of these about 2 weeks later. The second one came in pale, much smaller and overall far less impressive. I even had to check the leaves to make sure it was the same plant. There was no included plastic tag with the name of the plant on it. I’m not even 100% comfortable the plant will produce the same flowers. It’s far too much trouble to return the plant if I even could. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw what you get. The second photo is after several days of pampering. Water and sunlight have not improved the color.
