Repotting Jade Plant Instructions

Repotting Jade Plant Instructions

Jade plants, also known as Crassula ovata, are hardy succulent plants that are easy to care for and can thrive for many years with the proper care. Here are some instructions for repotting a jade plant:

  1. First, determine if your jade plant needs to be repotted. Signs that it needs repotting include roots growing out of the drainage holes, the plant becoming top-heavy, or the soil drying out quickly.

  2. Choose a pot that is one size larger than the current pot, with drainage holes at the bottom.

  3. Remove the jade plant from its current pot by gently turning it upside down and carefully pulling it out by the base of the stem. Be careful not to damage the roots.

  4. Loosen any compacted soil around the roots and trim away any damaged or dead roots with a clean, sharp pair of scissors.

  5. Place a small amount of well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix in the bottom of the new pot.

  6. Position the jade plant in the new pot, making sure that the base of the stem is level with the soil surface.

  7. Fill in around the roots with more potting mix, pressing it firmly to remove any air pockets.

  8. Water the jade plant well, but be careful not to overwater. Allow the soil to dry out slightly before watering again.

  9. Once repotted, it’s best to keep the jade plant in a bright, indirect sunlight location for a few days before moving it to its permanent location.

  10. Keep an eye on the soil moisture and water when necessary, but avoid over watering as jade plants are susceptible to root rot.

By following these instructions, you can ensure that your jade plant will have the proper space and soil to continue to grow and thrive.
